The Lord has been closing doors to our summer road trip these past two weeks and my sisters and I have been feverishly searching for alternative plans. We were supposed to rent a Class A { yes, the really huge motor homes that look like tour buses } and had one lined up but when the rental found out we have eleven people going on board they said we were over the limit of occupancy. Great. Instead of lying about the amount of people Atelei took to the internet once again and found another rental agency. They offered us a Class C, which is five feet shorter and much more maneuverable. Allan, who wasn't comfortable with the knowledge that I will be doing a lot of the driving, was thrilled when I told him that we are forgoing the Class A for the Class C. "Much safer," he commented.
Well, Plan B fell through when three families booked the three remaining motor homes. Frustrated, Atelei prayed even more fervently for direction. We assumed that maybe this was God's way of telling us we shouldn't go on this trip and planned on canceling the entire venture.
With less than eight days left Atelei received a phone call from our second rental company. Jeff announced that he may have another newer Class C motor home available for the same price. As soon as he checks it out he'll give her a call. Atelei hung up ecstatic. No less than five minutes later, the original rental company from which we had first begun our motor home adventure called and informed her that they proceeded to inform her that they will allow our family to rent the Class A.
Doesn't God work so wonderfully? He always provides when the plan fits according to what He desires. And it's always better to follow Him than follow our own plans. Who knows? Perhaps the first two motor homes are defective. Perhaps God allowed for these road blocks to teach us patience? Perhaps this is God's way of telling us to trust in Him. In everything. All day long.
With our 2008 Class C Jamboree motor home ready to be picked up our family is back on track, planning for our month-long adventure. And with God leading the way, I know we are in for the most memorable ride yet.
